Young Ballers Bring the Bounce to Inaugural Primary Basketball Event
Back
On Monday 22nd June, pupils from five Inspiration Trust Primary schools came together at the UEA Sportspark for the first-ever Primary 3x3 basketball festival of its kind, marking an exciting new addition to the sporting calendar.
The event welcomed teams of up to 5 boys and 5 girls from Years 5 and 6, giving them the opportunity to develop their basketball abilities in a fun and supportive environment. As the inaugural event, it provided a fantastic opportunity for young players from different schools to come together and experience the fast-paced format of 3x3 basketball.
The day began with a carousel of skill-based activities, where pupils rotated through a series of coaching stations focusing on key aspects of the game. Activities included passing, shooting, defence, footwork, and an introduction to the rules of basketball. Throughout the morning, pupils worked hard to improve their techniques, challenge themselves, and support their teammates while receiving guidance from coaches and sports leaders from the Inspiration Trust Basketball Academy.
After developing their skills, the pupils put their learning into practice in a 3x3 round robin tournament. The games provided plenty of opportunities for players to demonstrate their improved passing, shooting accuracy, defensive awareness, and teamwork. The tournament was played in an excellent spirit, with all teams showing enthusiasm, determination, and respect for their opponents.
As the first event of its kind, the festival was a tremendous success, showcasing the growing interest in basketball among primary-aged pupils. The combination of skill development and competitive play ensured that every participant was able to learn, improve, and enjoy the experience regardless of their previous basketball experience.
A huge thank you goes to our schools for attending, as well as the staff, coaches, and volunteers who helped make this inaugural festival such a success. The UEA Sportspark provided an excellent venue, and pupils left with new skills, increased confidence, and plenty of positive memories from a landmark day for primary school basketball.
Inspiration Trust Sports Co-ordinator Paul Wayman said
"Congratulations to everyone who took part in this historic first 3x3 basketball festival. It's been fantastic to see so many young people enjoying the game and supporting each other throughout the day. The 3x3 format is perfect for developing skills and confidence, and the energy on the courts has been incredible. We're really proud to provide an opportunity like this and hope it inspires a lifelong love of basketball. We look forward to seeing the event continue to grow in the years ahead."
