East Maths Community

Inspiration Trust is delighted to announce that, in collaboration with the University of East Anglia (UEA), we have been granted funding by The Maths Excellence Fund to work with ten schools and two colleges across Norfolk & Waveney on an enhanced maths provision and support scheme for students.

The Maths Excellence Fund has been established to support schools to improve student attainment and progression in maths from ages 11 to 16 and 16 to 18, increasing the number of students on track to succeed in A‑level maths, and beyond. The Fund supports schools to help students join and stay on a pathway of maths excellence, with a particular focus on high-potential students from underrepresented groups, for whom studying maths can unlock significant opportunities. Our programme, which has been called the East Maths Community, is designed to be a comprehensive programme to create a strong and well-supported Maths Community. Having started in September 2024 and running for 5 years, the aim is to create a self-sustaining programme that develops the tools and skills necessary for staff and parents to provide maths support to students that continue long after the project is scheduled to end. If you have any questions about the East Maths Community, direct them to team@eastmathscommunity.org

GCSE Further Maths

GCSE Further Maths is a very popular subject that allows students to extend their knowledge of topics studied in GCSE Maths: for example, quadratic equations and trigonometry. The course also introduces students to new topics including differentiation and matrices. These topics are then extended in A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths. Our online sessions focus on the content which is new to students on the Further Maths GCSE, we do however ensure that we cover topics that overlap with the Maths GCSE.

Our programme further develops students' algebraic manipulation and problem-solving skills which will support them in their learning of GCSE maths. Taking part in our programme is an excellent preparation for students who are interested in studying A-level Maths or A-level Further Maths, and develops students’ understanding of the depth of maths topics.

The programme is designed as a two-year course starting in year 10 to allow students to take their Further Maths GCSE alongside their other GCSE exams at the end of year 11. The student's school will be required to support the application of the student and to enter them for the exams (to be taken at their own school).

Since September 2024, our online session have been held weekly as follows:

Year 10 - Wednesdays, 3:15-4:30pm or Thursdays, 3:45-5:00pm

Year 11 - Thursdays, 3:45-5:00pm

For safeguarding purposes each session has at least two teachers on the call and sessions are not be recorded. Students registered for the course have access to a website that has videos and additional resources which they can use to support their learning.
