Sharp shooting at the Annual Inspiration Trust Netball Tournament
Back
If you happened to wander into UEA Sportspark on 17th or 19th March 2026, you might have heard the unmistakable sound of whistles, cheers, and umpire calls ringing out in the Sports Halls. That’s because all nine Inspiration Trust secondary schools gathered for two action‑packed days of netball, and the teams certainly gave it their all.
Across both days, more than 300 students took to the courts, representing Years 7–10 and playing their way through a combined total of 288 matches. With 7‑minute games running across three courts at once, the pace was fast and fierce, electrifyingly entertaining.
Each morning began with team photos and tournament briefings, before players jumped straight into a round‑robin schedule that ensured every school faced every opponent. The result was an impressive display of pin-point passing, relentless defending, and impressively accurate shooting — the kind that makes even seasoned netball fans nod approvingly.
Many matches were very close battles and came down to the final seconds, keeping spectators gripped and scorekeepers on their toes. Despite the intensity, players consistently demonstrated great sportsmanship, congratulating opponents after each game and proving you can compete fiercely while staying gracious. Levels of support across the year groups were also excellent, with all players cheering on their respective teams during their own rest breaks.
Supporting the fast‑moving action was a hardworking team of PE staff, student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton, and a brilliant group of Norfolk League umpires who supported the players development and helped to ensure the tournament ran like clockwork. Inspiration Trust Sports Coordinator Paul Wayman celebrated the high standard of play this year, praising the passion and competitiveness that contributed to the all-action atmosphere.
The Head Umpire for the tournament, Nikki said:
“We saw lots of great netball played in a really positive atmosphere. It was lovely to see the schools in Norfolk and Suffolk coming together and competing in a productive and supportive manner.
This type of tournament is really important for the development of netball and its netball players. Thank you to the amazing staff and volunteers that give their time and energy to make this possible.”
Congratulations to the winning teams in each age category, the recipients of the Umpire’s Awards and the four Players of the Tournament — though every participant had plenty to be proud of. For some students, it was their first experience of competitive netball, and they rose to the occasion with determination, teamwork, and sensational school spirit.
