On Friday 3rd February, nearly 150 secondary school students took part in a doubles-play tournament at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.

The event involved students from Years 7 to 10, ages 11 to 14, representing each of the nine secondary schools in the Inspiration Trust, including Cromer Academy, East Point Academy, Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, Hethersett Academy, Hewett Academy, Jane Austen College, King Edward VII Academy, Thetford Academy and Wayland Academy. The tournament is part of the Trust-wide Sports Competition which culminates in an annual award at the end of the year to the school with the most points.

Inspiration Trust Sports Coordinator, Paul Wayman said:

"The Inspiration Trust schools have really come together to produce a fantastic first event for 2023 and our third of an eight sport programme. All nine of our secondary schools competed, sports leaders came from Cromer Academy, umpires from Thomas Paine and student ambassadors from Sir Isaac Newton. Having this much support afforded the 300 matches to be played across 12 courts in a timely manner.”

The event consisted of a round-robin tournament with teams of 4 pupils consisting of 2 girls and 2 boys from each Year Group. Following a morning of exceptional game-play, the winning teams were:

Year 8 King Edward VII Academy East Point Academy Cromer Academy

“Even with a highly competitive atmosphere, sportsmanship and integrity were displayed in abundance. A special mention goes out to the UEA Sportspark for, again, being outstanding hosts. I am extremely excited for our upcoming sports competition schedule, which includes: rugby and netball for our secondary schools and football for our Trust primary schools."
