Thousands of teachers will complete training via county's new teaching school hubsBack
Thousands of local teachers and education professionals will complete training and development courses via county’s new teaching school hubs. The Department of Education has named Inspiration Trust and St John the Baptist Catholic Multi-Academy Trust as the providers for all teacher development programmes across Norfolk, as part of a new initiative.
In November 2020 the Department of Education announced that the teaching school hub scheme would create a national network of 87 centres of excellence for teacher training and development, replacing the previous network of around 750 teaching schools.
Inspiration Trust will be running professional development courses for all teachers and education professionals in Breckland, Great Yarmouth, South Norfolk and Waveney.
St John the Baptist Catholic Multi-Academy Trust will be running professional development courses for all teachers and education professionals in Norwich, Broadland, North and West Norfolk.
The hubs will collaborate closely with those in neighbouring counties to deliver an excellent training programme for trainee teachers through to executive leaders.
Claire Heald, Director of Standards at Inspiration Trust, said:
"We're pleased to be launching South Norfolk's Teaching School Hub. We already run a strong professional development programme - and now we're looking forward to expanding our offer and welcoming thousands more teachers to new exceptional hubs. This is an exciting opportunity for education professionals from across our fine county to come together, share ideas and make sure every child in Norfolk receives an excellent education.
“We will be working closely with St John the Baptist Catholic Multi-Academy Trust to make sure every education professional has access to the training they need to develop their skills and become the best teacher possible.”
Roger Higgins, Director of St John the Baptist Teaching School Hub, said:
“This is an exciting opportunity to improve on an already strong school improvement system in Norfolk. We already deliver high quality professional development as both a Research and a Teaching School. Going forwards, we will work closely with Inspiration Trust to achieve comprehensive high quality support for all Norfolk schools.
“We are driven by a commitment to improving outcomes for all young people in Norfolk, not just those in our own schools. Hubs have a key role to play in the Covid-19 response - helping teachers at every level share knowledge and expertise, to help our young people to thrive. We will build on our strong relationships with the region’s schools to serve Norwich, the Broads, North Norfolk and West Norfolk."
Louise Jackson, Lead of Inspiration Teaching School Hub, said:
“Making sure our top quality professional development programme is accessible to everyone has been a priority for us during lockdown. Now, we’re going a step further with our new teaching school hub. We’ll be opening satellite centres to make sure teachers don’t have to travel too far for their development and training.”
