We have recruited a central team of subject specialist leads with exceptional reputations in their fields who will be leading your programme.

Michael Fordham - director of initial teacher training

Michael read history at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he specialised in Anglo-Saxon history. He taught history in three comprehensive schools, including roles as head of history and assistant headteacher. He has been an editor of the journal Teaching History since 2010, and has published work in the fields of medieval history, history education, and philosophy of education. He was the Outstanding-Educator-in-Residence to the Singapore Ministry of Education in 2014 and is an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association. Michael has run training sessions and given presentations internationally, including in Singapore, Kazakhstan, Finland, Germany, and Malta. Michael is in the final stages of writing up his PhD at the University of Cambridge, with a thesis on subject-specificity in history teacher publications. Michael was heavily involved in teaching the PGCE, MEd, and MSt courses at the University of Cambridge. 

Lucy Austin - subject specialist lead for chemistry

Lucy has been a teacher for 15 years, ranging from primary to sixth form. She has also been head of science and assistant principal, has a Masters in Teaching and Learning, and holds Chartered Science Teacher status. Lucy's published works include KS3 curriculum materials, government advisory material, and a PGCE course for chemistry.

She has worked for UEA as a Research Associate and sits on the editorial board for the International Journal for Lesson and Learning Study.

Dr Richard Kueh - subject specialist lead for religion and philosophy

Richard studied at Peterhouse, Homerton, Downing, and Magdalene Colleges at the University of Cambridge. He was awarded a Starred First in theology and religious studies, winning the Scholefield Theological Prize and Foundation Prize. He went on to study for the MPhil and PhD, funded by a Peterhouse Research Studentship, Cambridge DRS Scholarship and AHRC Doctoral Award. His doctoral research was on the hermeneutical philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer and its impact on biblical reception history. Richard undertook teacher training at the Faculty of Education, Cambridge, for which he was awarded the Charles Fox Prize for educational research. He has supervised and lectured on the BA, MPhil and PGCE courses at the University of Cambridge.

Richard has published work in the fields of theology, Biblical studies, and religious education, specifically exploring the rationale for RE and RE's curriculum knowledge problem. Richard has shaped his practice in both the state and independent sectors, taking on various pastoral, curriculum, and whole-school leadership roles, including head of department, head of year, director of student leadership, and co-ordinator of SEMH. Most recently, he was part of the curriculum and pastoral leadership team who launched a new free school in Cambridgeshire. A leading practitioner-researcher, Richard has been Fellow and Scholar of the Farmington Institute at Harris Manchester College, Oxford.

Tim Mullis - subject specialist lead for physics

Tim read physics with electronics at the University of Kent. He completed his Masters in communication systems engineering, specialising in free space laser optics, before training to teach at the University of Bath. He has taught at four comprehensive schools, fulfilling the roles of science teacher, head of physics, head of science, director of science, and assistant principal with a focus on data and timetabling. During his time at Notre Dame High School in Norwich he led the science department to improve the double science results from 62% A* to C to consistently scoring above 80%. He has worked as a lead teacher for science across Norfolk.

Tim has worked extensively for the OCR exam board as an examiner and chief examiner for vocational science qualifications and worked on the test writing team for KS3 Science SATs questions and teacher numeracy tests. He has worked on various projects including writing and editing parts of a Pearson’s science revision guide and working on a design bid and implementation team for a half million pound science classroom of the future. Tim has presented at the BETT exhibition and worked in Beijing and Sao Paolo on a HP Catalyst project focused on the use of virtual reality in teaching. 

John Stephens - director of music

John won a Norwich Diocesan organ scholarship before reading for his music degree at the University of East Anglia. He also holds a masters degree in conducting. Mr Stephens has worked as a musical director in France, Kenya, and the United States, as well as for The Orchestrate! Project and Dusmagrik Young People’s Theatre Company in Norfolk. Since 2006 he has been director of music at Great Yarmouth Minster. Outside of music, Mr Stephens is a regularly visitor to Great Yarmouth's twin town of Rambouillet in France, and is currently chairman of the Great Yarmouth Twinning Association. 

Grace Healy - subject specialist lead for geography

Grace read geography at King's College London, where she was also a research assistant within the Environmental Monitoring and Modelling research group. She has previously held both departmental and pastoral leadership roles and is an experienced geography teacher. She has been the​ geography subject lead for a SCITT​ and taught ​sessions for the PGCE course at the University of Cambridge. Grace holds a Masters in education and is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in education at the University of Cambridge. She has reported on her classroom research in academic and professional publications, and at national and international geography education conferences. She is an active member of the geography education community and holds positions on the Post 16 and HE phase committee, the Assessment and Examinations Specialist Interest Group, and the Geography Education Research working group of the national Geographical Association.

Summer Turner - subject specialist lead for English

Summer has spent the last eight years teaching in state comprehensive schools in London where she held positions as head of English and director of teaching and learning. Summer recently published a book on curriculum and assessment design with Bloomsbury, and is a renowned speaker and blogger on curriculum, assessment, CPD, and leadership.

Nina Torin - subject specialist associate for MFL

Nina studied French at Hull University and has taught languages in secondary schools for 17 years. She lived and worked in Spain for three years where she worked in adult education and taught English and French in an international school. Nina has been a head of MFL for seven years and is currently head of French at Cromer Academy, where she still teaches two days a week. She has won various teaching awards for her classroom practice.

Sarah Buckley - primary phase leader

Sarah spent nine years teaching across the whole of the primary phase in some of the most challenging schools in Norfolk, having previously worked across five counties in England as well as in Germany, Cyprus, and Australia. As vice principal at Great Yarmouth Primary Academy she led teaching and learning, assessment, and the development of trainee teachers. She developed the primary knowledge-based curriculum in her school and leads on writing moderation at Key Stage 2 for the Trust. Sarah works alongside the Inspiration Trust subject specialist leaders to ensure all resources have the maximum impact for learning. She has delivered CPD and training for new and experienced teachers across Norfolk.
