Therapy dogs

Meet two very special members of the Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form support team – therapy dogs Pepper the Hungarian Vizsla, and Lionel the lurcher.

Pepper and Lionel have been at the sixth form since 2017, helping to boost students’ wellbeing and reduce stress and anxiety.

Student volunteers help to take care of the canine pair, including giving them regular walks outside the sixth form campus.

Research shows that interaction with therapy dogs is good for students’ physical and mental health, for example by reducing blood pressure and releasing chemicals in the brain that have a calming effect.

What if I am allergic to or afraid of dogs?

We have found that having Lionel and Pepper around the sixth form has helped several students become less nervous of dogs, but please do let us know if you are allergic to or afraid of dogs and we will make sure that Lionel and Pepper are kept away from you at all times.
