Course outline

This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

Course content

Anatomy and physiology: This unit looks at the physiology side of sport. Students will explore the different body systems such as the skeletal, muscular and cardio-respiratory system. This is an exam-based unit.

Fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing: Here students will look at designing a training programme to suit an individual’s needs. This is an exam-based unit.

Professional development in the sports industry: This unit explores the array of opportunity available in the sporting industry. This is an internally assessed unit.

There is another optional unit of work that will be selected dependant on the size and specialities of the cohort.

Entry requirements

GCSE science grade 5, BTEC (pass), or GCSE PE grade 5 (desirable)

Teaching, fitness instructor, physiotherapist, sporting facilities manager, sports coach, sports nutritionist, sports development officer, sports analyst, sport studies, sports science, sports and exercise science, sports conditioning.
