Course outline

A Level Portuguese is a great opportunity to expand on the GCSE, but in greater depth, looking at politics, society and culture; music and cinema; Portuguese-speaking communities. An A Level in a language is regarded by many universities as a ‘facilitating subject’ and can make a significant difference in UCAS applications.

  • The dictatorship of Salazar

  • Vasco da Gama's trip to India

Entry requirements

GCSE Portuguese grade 6

Career / higher education opportunities

Portuguese can be taken as a standalone BA degree course, or as a subsidiary subject alongside a number of other courses, such as law, medicine or engineering. Some courses even offer a year of study or work abroad for students.
