Course outline

The course aims to provide students with an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale and how IT is being applied to our everyday lives.

Course content

Students will take five units to achieve this qualification.
 
The first two units, Fundamentals of IT and Global Information, provide learners with an insight into the IT sector and its rapid growth in the 21st century.

The students take three further units that are centre assessed and moderated by OCR. These units will be Virtual /Augmented Reality, the Internet of Everything, and Developing a Smarter Planet. There is a big focus on practical application and an in-depth knowledge of theory.  So there will be a mixture of traditional classroom-based learning, alongside practical application.

Career / higher education opportunities

The Introductory Diploma will provide students with the fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding of IT. 

Students taking the course will be able to progress to higher education on IT or other degree courses. It would also be an excellent route into the growing IT industry, whether via apprenticeships, internships or employment.
