Further mathematics

Course outline

A Level further mathematics broadens and deepens the mathematical knowledge and skills developed when studying A Level mathematics. The course consists of three main areas and it is designed to be studied alongside A Level mathematics.

Course content

The course will include both pure and applied maths and statistics, covering topics including linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods, graph theory, network theory, critical path analysis, probability distributions, and hypothesis testing. Students will be able to apply complex mathematical ideas and concepts to real-life situations, such as in business and finance.

GCSE maths grade 6

Career / higher education opportunities

This course is an excellent choice for students intending to move on to degree-level study of mathematics and mathematically related subjects, and is very highly regarding by higher education establishments. At some of the top universities, A Level further mathematics is a requirement for courses such as engineering.
