Academy life

Every day at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is different: we're a busy, lively school with lots going on as our 750 pupils go about their learning.

Gates open at 8.25am and close at 8.40am every morning. We value punctuality at Charter and expect all pupils to be on the school site by 8.35am.

On Mondays and Fridays lesson finish at 2.50pm. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, lessons finish at 3.50pm. After-school clubs, revision sessions, and detentions run for an hour after school.

Our curriculum is focussed on building strong foundations in maths, English and science. In Years 7, 8, and 9 the core curriculum covers English, maths, science, French, history, geography, religious studies and physical education.

In Years 10 and 11, all pupils study English language, English literature, science and maths. In addition, pupils take four option subjects. These vary each year depending on pupil demand and ability, but generally include French, history, geography, religious studies, drama, child development, art, photography, music and sport.

Heads of year, form tutors and our SEND department play a pivotal role in ensuring that all pupils are cared for, and that every pupil's learning needs are met.

Pupils also receive extensive careers guidance. We work closely with local post-16 colleges to ensure pupils are fully aware of the options available to them after they complete their studies with us.
