Just the job: careers day to set students on right path

Published on 02/05/18

Thetford Academy students are setting their sights on the future with a day of careers and apprenticeship events.

The academy will host a careers fair during the school afternoon on Friday, May 4 for Year 8, 9, 12, and 13 students, with the mayor and deputy mayor of Thetford as special guests.

Universities, colleges, and employers from the region’s major industries will be on hand to give advice about choosing the right career path, with interactive exhibits including dogs, guinea pigs, and a Lego challenge to inspire students.

From 3pm to 5.30pm all students and their parents are invited to the school’s apprenticeship event - an informal session with a buffet and refreshments, with a focus on the opportunities available in and around Thetford.

Training providers will give information and advice on finding the right apprenticeship, while speakers from employers including Aviva and the NHS will explain how the schemes work in their businesses.

Thetford Academy’s careers advisor Sue Scott said: “This promises to be an inspiring and informative day which helps our students to plan for their perfect careers.”
