Bee lucky! Wildlife hero Lee saves swarm

Published on 03/05/19

Thousands of bees have found a safe new home with the help of Hethersett Academy site manager Lee Smith.

The buzzing insects were dislodged from their nest when it was accidentally hit by a stray football on the school grounds.

Lee bravely stepped in to help a beekeeping specialist move them to safety, with the 6,000-strong swarm following the queen to their new home away from the school site.

It’s not the first time Lee has come to the aid of wild creatures in peril – during work on the site over the Easter holidays he rescued a nesting great tit and her chicks which were trapped in a pipe.
