Green for go as pupils launch their craft in the park

Norwich Primary pupils got out into the city’s green spaces to put their design projects to the test in the real world.

The Year 6 children built balsa wood rafts inspired by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 Kon-Tiki expedition across the Pacific Ocean.

They proved the rafts’ seaworthiness on the rather more accessible boating pond at Eaton Park.

Nearby Earlham Park was the site for test flights of kites which the children had used their maths and design technology skills to make.

Year 6 teacher Andrew Page said: “Both days were highly enjoyable and saw plenty of successful launches for our pupils’ fantastic designs.”
