Young 'urchins' enjoy a day at the workhouse

Norwich Primary Academy pupils travelled back to the 19th century for a Victorian day at a Norfolk museum.

Dressed in Victorian costume, the Year 4 children visited Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse to find out more about life in the era.

They explored what it was like to grow up in Victorian times, including going out to work in the fields, helping in the Victorian kitchen and washhouse, and taking a Victorian school lesson.

The children have been learning about the period in school while studying the novel Street Child by Berlie Doherty, which is set in a Victorian workhouse.

The Year 4 team said: “The children’s behaviour was impeccable and we were very impressed by how confident they were in showing off their knowledge of the Victorians.”
