Introducing BTEC Plus

Sixth form students in Norwich are being offered a radical new programme at the Hewett Academy from September.
The academy is launching a new 'BTEC Plus' range of courses that focuses on extended, single-subject qualifications.
These courses are equivalent to the traditional three A Levels, but allow students to concentrate in depth on a single subject.
The academy is also offering students the chance to 'top up' their course with an optional matched A Level.
Principal Rebecca Handley Kirk said: "We’ve talked to students, employers, and universities and come up with a new approach that we call BTEC Plus.
"Traditional sixth forms force students to take multiple subjects, sometimes making them take courses that don’t play to their strengths. We wanted to do different and give students the chance to really get their teeth into a subject.
"Some universities told us that they still require an A Level for certain degrees, so we've included that as an option for students planning on studying further too."
The approach builds on the academy's successful BTEC Sport course, which saw a 100% pass rate in its first year, with an average Merit grading.
The core BTEC courses being offered from September 2018 are: art and design; business; health and social care; performing arts; and sport. The optional A Level courses are: English literature; film studies; history; music; politics; and psychology.
