New starters invited to get to know school

Students joining The Hewett Academy in Year 7 this September are invited to spend three days in the summer term getting to know their new school.
The transition days take place on Monday July 3, Tuesday 4, and Wednesday 5, giving new starters the chance to meet their form teachers and classmates, have a tour of the school, and take a look at the fantastic sports, science, and performing arts facilities.
Students will take part in taster sessions for a range of subjects including science, art, English, and maths, finishing with a full sports day and prizegiving ceremony on the Wednesday.
Parents and carers are welcome to come along to a drop-in session at the school’s Walter Roy Theatre from 4pm to 5pm on Tuesday, July 4.
Transition co-ordinator Sue Ferguson said: “Our transition days really help students settle in to their new school, as they have a chance to ask any questions, get to know their way around, and enjoy a taste of life at the Hewett.
“We look forward to welcoming our new starters and their families to our friendly and supportive school community, as they start what we hope will be an exciting and rewarding secondary school life.”
The Hewett Academy has some places remaining for Year 7 students starting in September, so parents wishing their child to join should contact the school office on 01603 628181 to confirm their place.
