‘Discover Japan’ day drums up excitement

Published on 30/06/17

Students from East Point Academy stepped into Japanese culture for a discovery day at the University of East Anglia on Thursday, June 22.

The Year 9 students took part in workshops on Japanese history and language, and learned how to write their names in Japanese script.

They used the ancient art of origami to make cats, dogs, and snakes from folded paper, and played traditional taiko drums in the UEA’s famous LCR concert hall.

Andrew Blanchflower, curriculum leader for MFL, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to find out more about a very interesting country and its culture and language.

“Students also enjoyed a tour of the campus and were enthused about the potential to continue their language studies at university level.”
