Sixties art show is far out, man

Art students at Cromer Academy have made some psychedelic paintings for a groovy gallery celebrating all things 1960s.

The Year 10 students’ artwork, featuring 60s icons like Elvis, The Beatles, and Twiggy, went on show at Cromer’s first ever 60s Festival on Sunday, April 23.

The festival, held on Cromer’s pier and promenade, included live music, vintage vehicles, and a screening of the 1966 World Cup final.

And the Cromer Academy students’ paintings took pride of place in a display at the Pavilion Theatre on the pier.

Art teacher Sammy Merry said: “The students were really ambitious in terms of scale, and used an exciting range of colours to show the vibrant and lively imagery of ‘Swinging 60s’ pop culture and fashion.

“The local community were really impressed with the work the students produced, and we are already planning ideas for next year’s event.”
