Geography expert joins Trust curriculum team

An internationally-experienced geographer has joined the Inspiration Trust's curriculum team.

Grace Healy has studied and worked across the globe, including in New Zealand and China, but  takes up her Norfolk-based role this month.

As geography specialist associate Grace will work with subject leaders and teachers across the Inspiration Trust, helping them develop their approach to the curriculum and resources, and ensuring they are up to date with the latest thinking in the field.

Grace previously taught at Comberton Village College in Cambridgeshire, and is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. She sits on the Post 16 and HE Phase Committee and the Assessment and Examinations Special Interest Group of the national Geographical Association.

Her classroom research has been discussed in sector journals including Teaching Geography and at national and international geography education conferences, and in August she will present her most recent research project at the International Geographical Union Conference in Québec City.

"I have been fortunate in my career to have been supported by many geographers across primary, secondary and teacher educator communities of geography education. I am extremely excited about what can be achieved by the geography teachers of the Inspiration Trust as a collective group," said Grace.

"I feel extremely privileged to have a place in cultivating and nurturing this community, and look forward to working collaboratively with passionate and talented colleagues across East Anglia."

Trust director of education Christine Counsell said: "Geography, as both a discipline and a school subject, is hugely diverse and this means there is a great opportunity for our geography specialists to learn from each other. As an active teacher and researcher I know Grace will do a fantastic job of sharing that wealth to the benefit of our students.

"Geographical education is so important to a pupil's knowledge and understanding of their place in the world, and ensures they can engage with debates on significant local, national and global issues."
