Schools will soon close for most children

Published on 18/03/20

Schools will be closed from next week for all children except those of key workers and children who are most vulnerable. This means most children's last day in school will be Friday 20th March. We do not know when schools will reopen. We have published a Q&A to help answer any questions.

The government has outlined that key workers include people working for the NHS, police staff and delivery workers.

Vulnerable children were described as those who have a social worker or an educational health and care plan.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson made the announcement in the House of Commons this afternoon. He said: “The spike of the virus is progressing at a faster pace than anticipated After schools shut their gates on Friday afternoon they will remain closed until further notice.

“This will be for all children except to those of key workers and children who are most vulnerable. The scientific advice shows that these settings are safe for this small number of children to continue attending, but asking others to stay away will go towards helping us the slow the spread of this virus."

We have prepared for this with our remote learning plans. The education of our students will continue.

More information will be available tomorrow once the government have published advice.
