We strongly believe that education is about more than exams: it’s also about giving pupils the chance to try new things, develop skills, and have some fun. We provide a range of extra-curricular activities to support our students in having the experiences and develop the skills they need to move confidently into the next stage of their lives.
Students can select from a range of options available across lunchtime and or after school.
After school activities run from 2.45pm - 3.45pm Monday to Friday for KS3, Monday and Friday for KS4.
3.45pm - 4.45pm Tuesday to Thursday for KS4.
Extra-curricular activities change to reflect student interests. Recent examples include:
- book club
- food technology
Please see below for our extra-curricular offer which runs until the end of the autumn term.
We also offer subsidised Visiting Music Teacher (VMT) lessons. Please download the attachment below to find our terms and conditions. Should you wish for your child to receive music lessons with a VMT please complete the attached form and return to Mr Hill in Student Services.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Venture Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a scheme that has been running since 1956. It aims to “help young people gain essential skills, experience, confidence and resilience to successfully navigate adult life.” DofE website. The Hewett Academy is a licensed provider of the DofE award and we are offering our students in year 9 and above the opportunity to embark or continue with their DofE award this academic year. To show an expression of interest on behalf of your child please email Mr Hill. We will review the responses and begin work with those interested after the October half term.
If you would like to know more about The Duke of Edinburgh Award please go to the website: https://www.dofe.org/
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is for young people aged between 14 and 24. We are conscious that students in years 7 and 8 may be interested in pursuing this when they reach the appropriate age but may be uncertain of what is involved. To support our younger students in preparing for the Duke of Edinburgh Award we are encouraging our students to embark on the Venture Award. Our Extra-Curricular Activities support students in completing the Venture Award along with other additional activities we will be providing later in the academic year. Please use the reply slip below to show your expressions of interest. We will review the responses and begin work with those interested after the October half term. If you would like to know more about the Venture Award please go to the website: https://bxmexpeditions.co.uk/
