Remote Learning

What is remote learning?

If school is closed, students will need to continue their education at home - we call this remote learning. 

We want to minimise the impact to your child’s education and therefore we have a plan to make sure learning can continue.

How will we provide remote learning?

We will be providing teaching resources through Google Classroom. We will also provide printed packs. If your child does not have access to a computer/Internet, please email the school office

How much work should my child be doing?

As far as possible, students should be following their normal timetable.  Each subject will set about an hour of work for the lesson. Students should therefore be set about 5-6 hours of work per day.

Aim for:

  • 5-6 hours work per day

  • No more than 2 hours on the same subject at a time - ideally 60 minutes if concentration is tricky.  It might be harder to do 2 hours on the same subject without the teacher in the room so don’t worry if you need to switch subjects!

  • 30 minutes of reading for pleasure per day. 

  • Exercise at least 30 minutes per day (walking, running, circuits, yoga from YouTube etc).

What type of work will be set?

Have a look at our remote learning plans - these give a general overview of tasks for each subject.

Work could include the following and will be managed by individual subject teachers:

  • Short quizzes

  • Short and long answer questions

  • Reading for Pleasure

  • Essay style questions

  • Working from Powerpoints

  • Videos (these will be shared via links or Powerpoints)

  • Work on online learning platforms (Hegarty, Quizlet, Seneca, Kerboodle)

  • Remember that KS3 students also have their KO booklets and can complete KO work from these.

How will work be assessed?

Our methods of monitoring and communicating educational progress during this remote learning period will evolve as our remote learning routines develop. 

These are some ways that work will be assessed:

  • Teachers will read and evaluate students’ work and then set subsequent tasks based on the strengths and weaknesses in the work already completed;

  • Students may take quizzes and mini-tests from which teachers can analyse the results;

  • Teachers may post comments on individual student’s work (which can include evaluative comments and/or marks).

What if my child is stuck?

Add a comment to the Google Classroom stream linked to that assignment and staff will respond as soon as possible.
