Student wellbeing

The wellbeing of our students is of the utmost importance to us and we offer a wide range of pastoral support to students who may be suffering from stress, anxiety, or other issues, working closely with external agencies when needed.

Who can I speak to?

  • Your form tutor
  • Your head of Key Stage - Mr Day, Key Stage 3 and Mr Self, Key Stage 4
  • Pastoral manager - Miss Croydon
  • Safeguarding manager - Miss Bygrave
  • Attendance manager - Miss Holyoake
  • Behaviour manager - Mrs Roe
  • SENDCo - Mrs MacDonald-Brown
  • SEND assistant - Miss Stephen

Any of your teachers will also be able to help.

Other support    

We work with many other agencies who can offer support, including:

  • One Church counselling
  • School nurse
  • MAP
  • Side by side counselling and the Benjamin Foundation
  • Point 1 referrals
  • Aspergers support from CALM

Exam stress

We offer the following support for students who suffer with exam stress:

  • One-to-one sessions with the house team in weeks leading up to exams
  • Separate room for exams with rest breaks where required
  • Before the exam - a mindfulness session and calm area to sit and relax
  • Food and hot drinks available before exams in calm area
  • Full leadership team and pastoral mentor on hand throughout exams
  • Place to relax after exams which is quiet and calm
  • Revision timetables:
    • 20 - 30 minutes bursts in a subject area
    • Do not rewrite notes
    • Test yourself
    • Plan in time for relaxing
  • Ask to sit practice exams or mocks in the exam hall. Specify that you would like to sit at your table so you get used to the environment.

Anxiety and stress in school

  • Talk to someone - parents, teachers, or friends
  • Tell the school
  • We will meet to put together a plan of support
  • We will stay in regular communication with updates
  • Students will have a learning coach or names staff member for support
