Our curriculum

Great Yarmouth Primary Academy broadly follows the national curriculum, with a particular focus on English and mathematics.

The academy follows the Read Write Inc. phonics and reading scheme, which is approved by the Department for Education. For mathematics, we are adopting the Mathematics Mastery approach (in Reception and Years 1, 2, and 3 at the time of writing). We are being supported in adopting this Singapore maths-influenced programme by Ark Academies.

Year 3 and 4 pupils are currently involved in the Education Endowment Fund-sponsored ‘Word and World’ pilot project (run by The Curriculum Centre/Future Academies). This is a knowledge-based approach to history and geography which also seeks to improve reading comprehension and broader cultural literacy. The project is heavily influenced by the thoughts and writings of ED Hirsch.

We also run weekly Philosophy for Children sessions throughout the academy for all pupils.

We review our curriculum on an ongoing basis, and you can download our long-term curriculum plan for the academic year below. If you would like more information about our curriculum please contact us.
