Young athletes from Thetford Academy have raised hundreds of pounds for school sports in a sponsored circuit training session with an international long jumper.
Ezekiel ‘Zeeks’ Ewulo put four classes of students through their paces when he visited the school on Friday, February 1.
After the sessions Zeeks, who has competed for Nigeria and Great Britain and is hoping to be picked for the next Olympic Games, gave an assembly talking about his career and the challenges of becoming a professional athlete.
He also demonstrated his long jump technique, although not quite matching his career personal best of 7.9m – more than half the width of the school auditorium.
PE teacher Katie Allcock, who organised the visit, said: “The students were highly engaged and asked interesting questions.”
The visit raised £700 in sponsor money which will go towards sports resources at Thetford Academy, including a PE celebration event, and the Sports For Schools project which aims to inspire young people to keep fit and gives support to promising athletes.
