Trust academies lead the way at GCSE

Published on 25/08/16

Students at Trust academies have chalked up record results, with some of the region's top grades.

Hethersett Academy has rounded off a phenomenal year with another increase in GCSE results to a record high of 86% A*-C English and maths.

In January the academy was rated Outstanding by Ofsted after achieving the best mainstream GCSE results in Norfolk, and its students looks set to be some of the very best in the county again in 2016.

Principal Gareth Stevens said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the results this year and congratulate all our students on their hard work and outstanding levels of attainment and achievement.

"Our Year 11 pupils have been a fantastic year group with many talented students who deserve the excellent results they have achieved. They have exceeded all the targets set for them and have been superb ambassadors for the school in many ways.

"They have all made a tremendous effort to succeed in partnership with a committed staff team and highly supportive parents."

East Point Academy continues to play its part in the Lowestoft Rising campaign to regenerate the UK’s most easterly town, with a substantial increase in GCSE results for its students from 62% A*-C English and maths from last year's 43%.

The rise demonstrates the commitment of staff and students, who have been well supported by the local community.

Principal Kevin Blakey said: "We are all delighted at these exceptional results that reward the hard work of our students, supported by their families and our dedicated staff.

"They prove that there is no reason why young people in Lowestoft cannot achieve as well as anywhere in the region."

Staff and students at Cromer Academy in north Norfolk have seen a doubling in the number of students achieving the English Baccalaureate, which recognises success in a broad range of subjects, and maintained strong overall results in the main headline GCSE measure recording 65% A*-C English and maths - the academy’s highest ever.

Students and staff at the Hewett Academy have faced a challenging year, with the equivalent of just two terms to make a difference for students already embarked on their two-year GCSE course.

In this its first year as part of the Inspiration Trust, students overall recorded 37% A*-C English and maths.

With a new leadership team now in place and substantial investment in facilities this summer, the academy is in a good position to make improvements in the future.

With a large and diverse student population, Thetford Academy continues to help students make progress above the national average.

Overall it recorded 41% A*-C English and maths.

Its comprehensive subject range includes eight subjects with a A*-C pass rate above 80%, in addition to its solid performance overall.
