New career skills were on the menu as students from Thetford Academy earned a nationally recognised food safety qualification at a major food manufacturer.
A group of Year 11 students spent a day behind the scenes at 2 Sisters, one of Britain’s biggest food producers, which employs over 800 people at its Thetford poultry factory.
They toured the site and earned a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate by learning about safe food handling and storage.
Thetford Academy worked with the Institute for Grocery Distribution to set up the partnership with 2 Sisters, with the aim of connecting students with major employers in the region’s food industry and boosting their employability skills.
Students from the school have previously taken part in work experience at 2 Sisters, and its managing director is set to give a careers talk to sixth formers in May alongside a CV and interview skills workshop.
Sue Scott, careers advisor at Thetford Academy, said: “Our students found the day really interesting and it increased their knowledge of the many careers available in the food industry, as well as giving them a valuable qualification for their CVs.”
