A young footballer from Stradbroke Primary Academy is feeling top of the league as he’s scored a place in a Championship team’s elite training squad.

Nine-year-old midfielder Aston was selected for the Ipswich Town Elite Academy after a trial at the Blues’ Portman Road ground in the summer.

He’ll now train weekly with the team’s expert coaches at the Kirkley and Pakefield ground in Lowestoft.

Aston has been playing in local teams for two years and currently plays for Gorleston Rangers’ under-10s team.

His latest achievement means he’s only one level away from qualifying for the Ipswich Town Centre of Excellence squad, and two levels away from being able to play professionally.

Stradbroke’s principal Tanya Blake said: “This is a tremendous achievement and a very exciting opportunity for Aston.

“We wish him the best of luck with the next step in his sporting career.”
