A Year 4 pupil from Stradbroke Primary Academy packed a punch to grab gold at a major karate tournament.
Nine-year-old Billy Baker took first place in the 9-10 year old kumite (sparring) category at the Shinka Karate Open Championships, held in London on Sunday, September 10.
The competition was organised by the Karate England Squad, with high-quality entrants from across the country.
Billy, who trains with Phoenix Karate School, has been selected for the KKO England Squad and will face international competitors at the WUKF World League Tournament in London later this month.
He hopes to add to his haul of two gold, three silver, and one bronze medal won at competitions in the UK, Ireland, and Romania.
Stradbroke’s head of school Tanya Blake said: “What an incredible achievement for Billy!
“He has shown fantastic commitment to his training and his success is well deserved. We wish him all the best for his next tournament.”
