A team of Norwich students has won bronze medals for indoor rowing at the Norfolk Winter School Games.
Ben Place, John Camara, Rhys Vogt, and Jamie McAllister from The Hewett Academy, and Adam Allen from Hethersett Academy bagged the medals for their strong performance in the Year 9 and 10 boys’ relay team final.
The gruelling race saw the team members rowing 6000m between them in a series of 500m sprints.
The boys were among 18 rowers from The Hewett Academy, Hethersett Academy, and City Academy representing the Norwich School Sport Partnership at the competition.
The championship was held on Friday, March 3 at the UEA Sportspark and saw eight squads from regions across Norfolk competing in individual and relay events.
There were impressive performances from the Norwich team in the individual categories, with The Hewett Academy’s Cassie Moon and Summer Rogtina rowing personal bests to finish in the top ten out of 24 competitors in the Year 7 and Year 8 girls’ races.
The Hewett Academy’s head of PE Simon Goodwin said: “This was a great team effort with some magnificent rowing by the students.
“Congratulations to our medal winners and well done to everyone involved.”
