Schools come together for Christmas

Published on 16/12/16

Students from across East Anglia came together for Christmas last night at a special service at Norwich Cathedral.

Families from the Inspiration Trust's 13 schools in Norfolk and Suffolk gathered to mark the festive season with an evening of readings and carols.

The Trust has schools in Cromer, Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Lowestoft, and Thetford, and the event saw children from across its academies come together in junior and senior choirs, and a massed orchestra.

Teachers from the various schools also came together for a staff choir.

The service began with a candlelit procession for the opening hymn, Once In Royal David's City, and also included readings by pupils and staff.

Trust chief executive Dame Rachel de Souza said: "Education is not just about what we learn in the classroom, it is also about introducing our young people to culture in its many forms. Coming together in a choir or an orchestra - especially in such an august venue - is all about teamwork.

"Doing so at Christmas with our families and friends around us makes the experience all the more memorable and inspiring."
