Strongest A Level results

Published on 18/08/16

Sixth formers at our schools are celebrating some of the strongest A Level results in the region today.

Students at Jane Austen College in Norwich achieved 91% A*-C grades in the college's first ever set of A Level results. As they picked up their results they were joined by journalists from Mustard TV and Heart Radio to hear all about their next steps - which include places at LSE and Warwick amongst others.

Early indications are that Jane Austen will have the highest A*-C pass rate of any mainstream Norfolk school, and has even beaten some fee-paying institutions.

At the maths and science specialist  Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, this year's results maintained the high standards set in the inaugural results in 2015 with a stable 80% A*-C pass rate, and an Oxford place for one of its students to read biochemistry at St John's.

Other university destinations include medicine and veterinary courses.

The Hewett Academy in Norwich is sending its first student in almost a decade to Cambridge, to read philosophy and ethics at St Catharine's College. Students overall achieved 76% A*-C grades - up 14% on last year's results prior to the school becoming an academy and joining the Inspiration Trust.

The academy has outperformed nearby institutions such as City of Norwich School and City College Norwich.

At Thetford Academy results were also up, with last year's 66% A*-C beaten with 71% of grades at that level this summer.

The academy has maintained its average C grade level.
