Litter pickers have bags of fun cleaning up the streets

Jane Austen College students have been doing their bit to keep Norwich tidy as they cleaned up the streets around the school.

Almost 40 Year 9 pupils - about a quarter of the year group - volunteered for the new after-school litter-busting squad.

With high-vis jackets, black bags, and litter pickers supplied by the school, the teams will blitz Colegate and the surrounding streets on a regular basis to help keep the city looking spick and span.

Principal David Thomas said: "It is nice for them to feel that they are making something better and it is really tangible – you get an immediate sense that you are making a difference."
