All the world's a stage for theatre-going students

Published on 10/10/18

English literature students at Jane Austen College saw their exam texts brought to life as they enjoyed high-profile stage productions of two celebrated plays.

Fifty students travelled to the world-famous Globe theatre, on London's South Bank, for its sellout run of Shakespeare's classic tragedy Othello in September.

English teacher Louarna Baxter said: "The performance was superb and really brought the play to life.

"We were lucky to enjoy the 'outdoor' theatre experience from the towers, where we were sheltered from the rain!"

A few days later the Year 10 and 11 students headed to Cambridge to see the critically acclaimed Stephen Daldry production of JB Priestley's atmospheric thriller An Inspector Calls.

Ms Baxter added: "It was fantastic to hear our students' insightful comments and analysis after the play.

"Once again, our students proved themselves a real credit to the school."
