Open-air Pied Piper lures the crowds

Actors from Jane Austen College gave theatre-goers a summer treat with an open-air production of a classic fairytale.

They put on a free performance of The Pied Piper of Hamelin in Norwich’s outdoor Whiffler Theatre, with Norwich Castle as a backdrop, on Wednesday, July 11.

Dating back to the Middle Ages, the legend tells of a rat-catcher who lured rats away from the German town of Hamelin with his magic pipe – then led away the town’s children when the townspeople refused to pay him.

Drama teacher Joseph Ballard said: “This was a superb production with stunning performances from our talented actors.”
