Latin students Rome around the castle
Published on 11/01/18
Year 7 students from Jane Austen College brought their Latin studies to life with a Roman day at Norwich Castle in December.
The young centurions explored Roman military weapons and armour, before trying out some shield formations such as the Tortoise.
Handling archaeological treasures from the local area, such as roof tiles, Samian pottery, and oil lamps, gave the students a unique insight into how the Romans influenced the culture and customs of the East Anglian Iceni tribe.
Students also had the chance to practise their spoken Latin, performing Palla Rubra (a translation of Little Red Riding Hood) with enthusiasm.
Thanks to the students for their exemplary conduct and to Mrs O’Neill and Miss Adlem for accompanying the group.
