Students get sneak peek at new sports centre

Pupils at two Norwich schools got a first glimpse of their new £2m sports centre today with a special visit to mark the beginning of building work.
Students from Jane Austen College and the Hewett Academy visited the site of the new Inspiration Sports Centre on Hall Road, which will be used by both schools from September.
The pupils saw first-hand demolition work on the old Hewett Academy east gym, which is being replaced by a new larger four court multi-sports hall.
The centre has been designed to support netball, cricket, and badminton as priority sports, alongside facilities for volleyball, trampolining, and basketball.
Students also heard from Kier operations director Dennis Cotton and project manager Chris Clifton how the construction firm is using pre-cut timbers prepared in Austria to minimise disruption on site and put up the building more quickly.
Mr Cotton said the hall should be complete by the summer, and fully in use by the new academic year in September.
Jane Austen College executive principal Claire Heald said: "We already use the playing fields at the Hewett Academy and this new sports hall marks a new closer collaboration for us as schools in the Inspiration Trust."
Hewett Academy principal Rebecca Handley Kirk said: "The new centre adds to our already exceptional sports facilities, with a swimming pool and football and hockey centres, and we are very happy to be able to share that with pupils from across the city."
