City councillors have approved plans for a new sports hall to be used by Jane Austen students.
Proposals for the new four-court sports centre were given the go ahead today, with the new facilities due to be up and running by September 2018.
The hall will be built at the Hewett Academy site off Hall Road, replacing existing dated facilities.
The courts will be designed to support netball, cricket, and badminton as priority sports, alongside facilities for volleyball, trampolining, and basketball.
The centre is expected to be used by Jane Austen College, the Hewett Academy, Charles Darwin Primary, and the new Wherry School, an independent specialist free school for children with autism.
Jane Austen College principal Claire Heald said: "Having access to additional brand new facilities specifically designed for school use will be brilliant for our students.
"We have a fantastic partnership with the UEA Sportspark but having more dedicated modern sports courts within the Trust will enable us to expand our sporting opportunities for students."
The scheme is being managed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency, part of the Department for Education.
