World Book Day celebrates love of reading
Published on 06/03/17
Students at Jane Austen College celebrated World Book Day in fantastic style on Thursday, March 1.
Literary characters from Willy Wonka and Harry Potter to Miss Peregrine and The Cat In The Hat filled the classrooms as students and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters for the day.
Students took part in a literary scavenger hunt across the school, tested their knowledge in a book quiz, and had to guess which ‘shelfie’ – a photo of a bookshelf – belonged to which member of staff.
World Book Day is held every year to celebrate books and promote reading in schools across the country.
School librarian Robert Welton said: “World Book Day at Jane Austen College was a resounding success.
“It was great to see the whole school community taking part in our activities to promote the enjoyment and power of reading.
“Thank you to all the staff and students who dressed up and supported this fantastic event.”
