Children in Malawi have unwrapped a special delivery of computers and sports kit donated by two Norwich schools.
Used laptops no longer needed by Norwich Primary Academy have been refurbished, loaded with educational software, and distributed to 20 schools in the Dedza region of the country in south-east Africa.
The Hewett Academy, Norwich donated over 100 unused shirts and 250 pairs of shorts from its old PE uniform, which will be used by primary schools and youth clubs.
Malawi is one of the world’s least developed countries, and its schools are desperately in need of basic equipment.
Nick Nicholson, chair of the Norwich-Dedza Partnership which organised sending the kit to Malawi, said: “The computers will help school staff to find interesting teaching materials, and with their professional development.
“Sports kit is really important to the schools as well - being in a team encourages children to stay at school to complete their education.”
