The Hewett Academy has welcomed a VIP (Very Important Pup) to the school team.

Charlie the Chug (a cross between a Chihuahua and a Pug) lapped up the attention from pupils when he made his first visit to the school in November.

Pupils who had been picked as stars of the day for their hard work in class had the treat of walking Charlie at break and lunch times.

Vice principal Hayley Ross said: “We’re hoping for lots more visits from Charlie; students will have the chance to walk, groom, and play with him as a reward for good attendance and reaching above and beyond.

“He will also be a reading dog, helping students build their confidence as they read to him.”
