Students from The Hewett Academy have impressed the Secretary of State for Education with their plans to boost social mobility in Norwich.
Education minister Damian Hinds listened as Year 10 students Molly Cooper and Shannon Boone spoke at a meeting of the Norwich Opportunity Area on Friday, October 12, in front of a panel which also included MP for Norwich North Chloe Smith and heads from schools across the city.
Molly and Shannon gave an update on the progress which the Hewett student team has made on its plans to help the city’s disadvantaged families, which include setting up classes for parents with English as an additional language, helping increase their employability through CV writing workshops alongside English and maths lessons.
Mr Hinds and Ms Smith described their plans as “better than what the adults can come up with”.
Hewett Academy pastoral manager Millie Stephen said: “Molly and Shannon displayed what aspirational and positive young people they are, and represented The Hewett Academy with pride and dedication.”
