Students celebrate exam results

Hewett Academy students have been celebrating results in A Levels and GCSEs this summer.

At A Level, the overall pass rate was 88%, with particularly good results in art, religious studies, and Spanish. Across all subjects, 52% of grades were at A*-C.

Principal Rebecca Handley Kirk said: "I would like to congratulate all our students on their results, and their many individual achievements.

"We look forward to building on them with our new BTEC Plus courses starting in September."

At GCSE, results reflect the move to a new, tougher curriculum and national changes to courses that put more weight on exams.

Mrs Handley Kirk said: "We have deliberately moved to a more rigorous academic curriculum this year, raising the number of pupils eligible for the English Baccalaureate from 10% to 61%, putting us in the top 10 in the county.

"Despite new tougher courses we have some fantastic individual results, particularly in science, and our Year 11 students and staff can feel very proud today."
