Miss out on World Book Day? Snow way!

Published on 06/03/18

The Hewett Academy celebrated World Book Day with a library-load of literary fun on Monday, March 5 - after heavy snow scuppered its plans for the previous week.

Students and staff came to school dressed as their favourite literary characters, including Noddy, Hermione Granger, and Sherlock Holmes, for a day packed with fun activities to promote reading.

Students listened to staff's favourite stories at the start of lessons, took part in a ‘guess the teacher reading’ photo game, designed National Book Token cards, and created some amazing book covers.

The day culminated with librarian Sue Garrett’s book quiz, with the champions taking away a goodie bag of book-related treats along with the glory of being ‘Bookish team of the year’.

Head of English Hayley Ross said: “It would take more than the 'Beast from the East' to stop the Hewett's celebration of all things book-related.

“Our staff and students put in an excellent effort and made it a great day.”
