New chapter for Hewett reading challenge

Published on 02/10/17

The Hewett Academy has launched its annual reading challenge with a bundle of brilliant books for students to get stuck into.

Students in Year 7, 8, and 9 have chosen their first book from a list of ten ‘Hewett Great Reads’, and have been challenged to read them all over the next few months.

They will be encouraged to discuss their books with their friends and teachers, write reviews, and complete creative activities relating to the books, with rewards for students who read all ten on their year group’s list.

The titles have been hand-picked to stretch students’ vocabulary, beliefs, and knowledge, while feeding their love of great literature.

Staff launched the challenge in special assemblies, enthusing about their favourites from the reading lists.

Head of English Hayley Ross said: “Many students told us last year that they really enjoyed being introduced to books and authors that they may not have discovered otherwise.
