These girls can!

Students from two Norwich schools have unleashed their sporty sides at a new event inspiring teenage girls to keep active.

Girls from The Hewett Academy and Jane Austen College had the opportunity to try a range of fun sports for the first time at the This Girl Can Festival, held at City Academy in Norwich on Monday, March 27.

Expert instructors led sessions in CrossFit, karate, yoga/pilates, and KTroo – a low-impact workout using bouncy ‘rebound boots’.

The festival, organised by the Norwich School Sport Partnership and inspired by the national This Girl Can campaign, aimed to get more girls to take up regular physical activity.

Simon Goodwin, head of PE at The Hewett Academy, said: “It was nice to see so many girls clearly enjoying physical activity and in particular some new activities. They loved KTroo and were exhausted by the end.”

Danielle Birkin, PE teacher at Jane Austen College, added: “The festival was a fantastic opportunity for our girls to get involved in activities that they would not have necessarily participated in voluntarily. All the girls had fun and clearly got a lot out of it, smiles all round!”
