World Book Day celebrates love of reading

Published on 08/03/17

Students at The Hewett Academy dressed as their favourite literary characters to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, March 1.

Staff and students came to school in costumes inspired by books like Where’s Wally, The Cat In The Hat, and the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series.

Librarian Sue Garratt organised a book-themed memory game and quiz, putting students' literary knowledge to the test to win the coveted ‘Bookish team of the year’ award – with books as prizes for the winning team, of course.

World Book Day is held every year to celebrate books and promote reading in schools across the country.

The Hewett Academy’s head of English Hayley Ross said: “Our staff and students thoroughly enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day and were very competitive in our book quiz.

“The day was a fantastic celebration of our love for reading.”
