East Point Academy has celebrated Britain’s recent success at the Winter Paralympic Games by hosting a tournament of Paralympic sports.

Students from six schools in the region came to the Lowestoft school for the North Suffolk School Games Paralympics event on Tuesday, March 20.

The teams enjoyed a coaching session from East Point’s school games officer Jeff Hoey in goalball, a team sport developed for players with impaired vision.

Coaches from Suffolk club Bury Bombers provided expert training in wheelchair basketball.

The teams then took to the courts for an inter-school tournament, which saw the East Point boys’ goalball team taking second place in their round.

PE teacher Harriette Goldspink said: “Our students really enjoyed the day.

“They learned the key rules and gained a better understanding of the specific skills needed to perform in these Paralympic sports.”
